Physimed MediSpa uses Lumecca, the newest technology in IPL. IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy is a versatile treatment for photo-rejuvenation. Lumecca delivers energy that stimulates elastin and collagen production, which can help improve fine lines and shrink enlarged pores. It reduces signs of photo-aging, including brown spots, rosacea, and broken capillaries on the face, neck, hands, and chest. After a single treatment, patients see significant improvements in their skin complexion and clarity. Lumecca operates using photothermolysis which gives a photofacial by means of a comfortable light treatment that avoids harming the surface in order to ensure little to no downtime.
When rejuvenating sun-damaged skin, several treatments are often necessary for the best result. The treatments are typically performed every 3-4 weeks.
Lumecca is an exceptional solution to reduce skin irregularities and lok years younger. In only 1-3 sessions, Lumecca IPL therapy improves the appearance of age spots (red/brown pigment spots), vascular lesions like spider veins or facial telangiectasias and poikiloderma rosacea (redness), freckles, and sun damage.
If you are treating spider veins, results can be instantly noticeable. Nonetheless, the IPL treatment plan is generally slow and steady, with 3-5 treatments each a month apart for the best results. Patients can see improvement in their redness and brown spots within two weeks of their first session. Significant results may only be visible after around 2-3 treatments, especially for severe age or dark spots.
Prior to your treatment, we cleanse your skin and apply an ultrasound gel. We move the device over your skin pressing the trigger to emit the intense pulsed light. The length of treatment depends on the size of the area, but it typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes.
There is minimal recovery time. Your skin may be red and swollen for a few hours or the rest of the day. Despite this, you are able to get back to your work or other regular activities, using a cool washcloth or an ice pack if ever you feel discomfort. You are able to apply moisturizer and sunscreen immediately after the treatment.
If you treat pigmented spots, they will appear to rise to the surface of your skin at 1-7 days post-treatment and become darker, then they will flake off a few days to a week later. If you treat vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear, or a color change in the vessel that dissipates after a few days. Your skin may feel sunburned and hypersensitive for a couple days following, so avoid irritating it until it has completely healed. Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater on the treatment area at all times.
Everyone is exposed to the sun for a portion of their lives and as such receives a certain level of sun damage. This ages us and causes pigmented lesions like age spots, broken capillaries, rosacea, spider veins, freckles and more. Anyone concerned about these photo-aging effects and has light to mid coloured skin should consider this wonderful treatment. Note that the best candidates do not have dark or olive complexions, as melanin (pigment) in the skin is hyper-sensitive toward light energy. At Physimed Medispa, we offer alternative procedures to accommodate for all our patients; see below for treatment options suited for dark skin.
If you are unsure about whether you are a good candidate or not, feel free to book an appointment. During your first visit, our experts will ensure that you are the right candidate, and may do a patch test to check. We will also instruct you on what to do prior to the treatment, such as waxing, tanning or sun exposure, peels, and topical creams that contain retinol or glycolic acid.
