laser hair removal montreal

Lasers target pigment in the hair follicle to attack the follicle. The laser uses thermal damage to destroy the hair follicles. Laser hair removal is safe, effective and convenient. They ensure permanent hair reduction and provide outstanding results. Note that the hair growth typically isn’t 100% removed, but is significantly reduced. To achieve optimal reduction of hair, you will need a series of treatments. Your genetics, your hair growth cycle, and the area of the body you want to treat will determine how many treatments you will require for optimal hair reduction.

We at Physimed MediSpa use the latest and most powerful hair removal lasers to ensure you with the best outcome possible. We use the Triton platform from InMode combined with three lasers; an Nd Yag laser, a Diode laser, and an Alexandrite laser. This combination gives the best results achievable. Get a reduction of 90-95% hair, instead of only 50-60% with IPLs.

Hair grows in cycles, therefore to achieve permanent results, it is necessary to have several treatments performed at 4-8 weeks apart. Each hair removal treatment will result in a reduction of 10-25%. Additionally, the hair that regrows is typically finer and lighter.

Noticeable results appear after four to six sessions, depending on your hair colour, hair type, body area, and skin tone.

Leading up to the treatment, we recommend you stop waxing, tweezing, or plucking hair you want to remove for two to six weeks. However, shaving is fine. You will have to shave the treatment area 24 hours prior to the appointment with a clean, new blade. This will help the laser light locate your pigment and target the hair follicles.

Additionally, avoid UV exposure in the weeks prior to your treatment. Do not use self-tanning lotions or tanning beds, or anything that will darken the pigment of your skin. The laser light is attracted to any pigment – in hair follicles or skin – but should only be attracted to the hair follicles.

The time the procedure lasts depends on the size of the treatment area. Small areas like the upper lip, ears, and chin take a minute or even less to treat, whereas big areas such as the back or legs can take up to an hour to treat.

The first step for the procedure is to evaluate your skin and hair to determine which type of laser is best suited for you and your hair removal goals. The laser equipment is adjusted to your skin colour and hair thickness.

For the duration procedure, you will need to wear special eye protection to prevent eye damage from the laser. We will also do a test pulse of light on the area. We’ll check the area several minutes later to make sure you have no adverse reaction to the treatment. During the procedure, the laser sends a concentrated light beam to the hair follicle. This damages it and stops regrowth. As each beam is sent over your skin, you will feel a sensation like a warm pinprick or snap. It is mildly uncomfortable.

After the procedure is over, we may give you some ice packs to reduce any swelling and soothe irritation.

For up to two days following your treatment, the area of skin that was treated may seem sunburned. You may need cool compresses or a gentle moisturizer to soothe the skin. Afterwards, still avoid any sun exposure to prevent further irritation. Wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher if ever you expect to be exposed to the sun.

Certain lasers can be dangerous on the wrong skin tone that is not suited for the laser. Laser hair removal can end up burning the skin. At Physimed MediSpa, we use the right, safe, and efficient laser for your complexion. Patients with dark skin tones can be safely treated for laser hair removal with lasers such as an Nd-Yag laser paired with Diode lasers. Patients with lighter skin complexions can be safely treated with the Diode laser combined with an Alexandrite laser for laser hair removal. At Physimed Medispa, we offer all of these combinations and can determine your ideal combination for effective and safe laser hair removal.

If your hair is especially blond, gray, or red, please consider electrolysis rather than laser hair removal, as there is no laser available on the market that can effectively and safely remove blonde, grey, or red hair.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you are discouraged from it is not recommended for you to do any laser hair removal. You should wait to start a laser hair removal treatment series.

Any area on the body with unwanted hair can be treated with laser hair removal. This includes the face, back, chest, abdomen, arms, legs and genital areas.

At Physimed Medispa, we determine the right laser to use on your skin to ensure that your laser hair removal is very safe. The side effects are negligible when we use the proper settings for your skin type. These minor effects can include some redness that is comparable to a sunburn, and will fade as such. Blisters typically only happen on brown and olive skin, and they are rare.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, laser hair removal is not recommended for you and you should wait to start a laser hair removal treatment series.

After a full series of laser hair removal treatments, you might need up to two touch up appointments one year later.

A more common alternative for hair removal is the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment. However, true lasers tend to have much more satisfactory results. This is because IPL treatments require 6 to 12 treatments as well as multiple maintenance treatments. IPL is not as powerful or specific as true lasers.
