PRP MICRONEEDLING
Why Microneedling Is the Next Big Thing in Skin Care
SUMMARY
This treatment involves microneedling, which creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin. This encourages the skin’s repair process, producing collagen and elastin. The process can reduce lines and wrinkles, even skin tone, refine pores, tighten skin, and reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Then, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is applied to the skin to heighten the repairing.

Automated microneedling is a new technology in the aesthetic medicine field. The process can reduce lines and wrinkles, refine pores, tighten skin, reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks, and improve skin texture, tone, and colour. The device creates micro-injuries that stimulate collagen and elastin production to heal the skin. The healing process results in a healthier epidermis. Another benefit of the treatment is that it forms micro-channels in the skin. These facilitate the absorption of topical treatments and enhance their effects. Thus, PRP is added and it is made more effective.
Microneedling may also be combined with topical PRP derived from the patient’s blood. This is a more potent and more expensive treatment that delivers better results and more anti-aging power. This treatment is also known as a vampire facial.
Microneedling makes thousands of tiny injuries on the surface of the skin. It affects a fraction of the skin’s surface and is thus known as a fractional treatment. The undamaged skin helps with the recovery of the damaged skin. So, the recovery time is short.
The immediate result is a glow in your skin. Improvement of skin texture can be seen in a week after your first procedure. After several weeks, you will notice more obvious changes to the skin. Results can show themselves in up to 6 months post-treatment.
Most patients report seeing a significant improvement in pore size and scars or deep wrinkles in 3 treatments. Consequently, 2-3 treatments at 4-8 weeks apart is the recommended plan for optimal results. 6-8 sessions is recommended to patients with more significant skin-care concerns, such as acne scars.
45 minutes before the procedure, we apply a topical anaesthetic. We then clean the skin and apply an active serum – either your PRP or hyaluronic acid – and glide the microneedling device over it.
The device has a disposable sterile needle cartridge with 12 needles. When the device glides over your skin, the needles are “stamped” in continuously at the right depth for the area. For example, the depth of the needles in the forehead is much more shallow than in the cheeks. Since the device moves so quickly, the treatment is made quite comfortable.
Finally, a customized serum like PRP or a cooling mask is applied to speed up the recovery.
The procedure can last 15-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
There is no downtime and recovery is short. You will have some pinpoint scabs that disappear quickly. You may be red for a few days. Note that protecting your skin from the sun is important after the procedure.
PRP microneedling is safe for any skin tone. If you want to improve your skin texture and tone, tighten skin, smooth wrinkles, refine pores, and fade scars, consider this treatment!
PRP microneedling is safe for the whole body and face.
Your skin will be sensitive to the sun so avoid exposure and wear sunscreen. This procedure is not recommended for people with active skin conditions, including eczema and rosacea. Other than this, there are no real side effects or risks.
To uphold results, people over 40 and people with sun-damaged skin will need touch-ups every 3-4 months, and people with younger skin will need touch-ups yearly or bi-yearly. The depth of the needles and the serum used also affects the frequency of touch-up treatments.
Laser resurfacing and Morpheus8 are great alternatives to microneedling.
