Pico Laser for Tattoo Removal
The gold standard for tattoo removal.
SUMMARY
The gold standard for tattoo removal today is the pico/Q-switch laser. These lasers send light pulses into the skin that are absorbed by only the pigment in the tattoo, allowing the pigment to break up and be flushed out without harming any cells. This non-ablative, minimally invasive treatment is safe and effective for all ethnicities.

INVASIVENESS

The pico laser sends nano-pico second light pulses that go through the skin and are absorbed into the pigment but no other cells. The light pulse breaks up the pigment into tiny particles that are easily flushed away by the body’s immune system.
The pico laser can remove all types of amateur and/or professional tattoos, and can target specific parts of tattoos to change their appearance.
After enough sessions, your tattoo will be basically entirely gone. The results and how quickly the tattoo fades will be dependent on the specific tattoo, more specially on the depth of pigment and the colours. Even after only one session you can see considerable fading.
We apply anaesthetic cream to the tattoo area before treating it. Once the anaesthesia has taken effect we pass the pico laser over the tattoo multiple times. The procedure is uncomfortable but is generally well tolerated by patients due to the anaesthesia.
There is no recovery period with tattoo removal. The area will be red and swollen for some time but it should not require downtime. Avoiding sun exposure and applying sunscreen to the area while recovering will be necessary.
Those with unwanted tattoos or sections of tattoos can benefit from the pico laser.
This procedure is safe for anywhere on the face and body.
There are virtually no risks with the pico laser.
Once the tattoo pigment is removed, it is gone for good. No maintenance is needed, however multiple sessions will be necessary to completely remove the tattoo.
