Physimed MediSpa is using the latest technology in IPL called Lumecca. IPL, or intense pulsed light, is a versatile photo-rejuvenation treatment that can improve a range of issues on the face, hands, neck, and chest, including brown spots, broken capillaries, and rosacea. The energy also stimulates collagen and elastin production, which may help improve fine wrinkles and shrink enlarged pores. After a single treatment, patients notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of their skin. Lumecca operates using photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment without harming the surface, ensuring little to no downtime.

Several treatments when used to rejuvenate sun-damaged skin are usually necessary for best results. They’re typically performed three to four weeks apart.

Lumecca IPL is a superior solution to improve skin complexion, reduce skin irregularities and look years younger. In just 1-3 sessions Lumecca improves the appearance of: age spots (red/brown pigmentations), vascular lesions such as facial telangiectasias (spider veins) and poikiloderma rosacea (redness), freckles, and sun damage.

When treating spider veins, results are often immediate. However, the treatment plan for IPL is typically slow and steady, with 3-5 treatments a month apart to achieve full results. Patients often see some improvement in redness and brown spots within two weeks of their first session, but significant results may not be visible for at least 2-3 treatments, particularly for more severe age, dark, or sun spots on the face.

Notice: these photos are published for informational purposes only. They do not constitute a guarantee of results.

Prior to the treatment we cleanse your skin and apply an ultrasound gel. We move the device over your skin pressing the trigger to emit the intense pulsed light. The length of treatment depends on the size of the area, but it typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes.

Recovery time is minimal. Your skin may be red and swollen for a few hours or the rest of the day, but you should be able to go back to your regular activities or work, using ice packs or a cool washcloth if you need to ease the discomfort. You’ll be able to apply moisturizer, sunscreen, and makeup immediately after the treatment.

One to seven days post-treatment, pigmented spots will appear to rise to the surface of your skin and become darker before fading and flaking off a few days to a week later. After treating vascular lesions you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days. Your skin may feel sunburned and hypersensitive for a couple days following, so treat it gently until you’re completely healed. Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater on the treatment area at all times.

With time, all of us will get some level of sun damage to our skin which can make us look older. Anyone who has age spots and brown pigments on their skin, redness caused by broken capillaries, rosacea, telangiectasias (spider veins), freckles and general facial flushing can benefit from IPL photo-rejuvenation. It works best on people with light to mid color skin. The melanin (pigment) in the skin is very sensitive to light energy, therefore people with dark or olive complexions are not good candidates for this treatment and should seek alternative modalities with our laser photo-facial.

During your initial visit, we will make sure that you’re a good candidate for IPL. We may even perform a patch test beforehand, and we will give you instructions on what items to avoid for up to two weeks before your IPL treatment. These could include waxing, tanning or sun exposure, peels, and topical creams that contain retinol or glycolic acid.

Lumecca can be used on most areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun, including the face, neck, décolleté, legs, hands, and arms.

The risks of IPL are lower than those of some other light-based procedures, such as lasers or radio-frequency.

Most patients do not experience any side effects, and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. The treatment can be uncomfortable sometimes, with a prickling or stinging sensation. An anesthetic cream be applied beforehand that can numb the skin and make the experience quite comfortable.

In rare cases, people experience bruising, blistering, a change in skin color, increased melasma, or infection. Please make sure that your skin isn’t tanned before your treatment.

Everyone can benefit from regular photo-rejuvenation treatment every 6 months to reduce sun damage and improve their skin. At Physimed MediSpa, we offer different treatments for photo-rejuvenation to accommodate the needs of all our clients.

True lasers, like our Fotona Nd-Yag laser, use specific wavelengths of light, to target pigment or hemoglobin (the red protein in blood) and fade dark spots, remove hair, and reduce redness. This could be a good alternative for people with darker skin complexion.

Chemical peels are other modalities that remove the damaged top layers of skin to reveal healthier skin underneath, reducing discoloration and improving fine lines and wrinkles.
Microdermabrasion uses a device to gently sand off the top layer of skin, brightening dull skin and evening out skin tone.
