The body has an inherent capacity to heal. If you cut yourself and don’t do anything to the wound, your body will heal itself and the wound will close. Our platelets, which are particles that circulate within our bloodstream, play a key role in this healing process.
Blood is made of particles (red blood cells; white blood cells; and platelets) that navigate within a liquid called plasma.
When we inject a Plasma extract to patients, we first take some blood from the patient (about 30 cc) and run it through a centrifuge using a special kit that will isolate the platelets from the other cells in order to prepare a concentrate of platelets ready to be injected back in the treatment areas.
Within each platelet, you can find multiple granules which contain very precious growth factors. When these platelets are separated and injected in your body, they start to degranulate and release all those precious growth factors in the areas that we have targeted with our injections. Your body’s reparative cell production is then stimulated to regenerate and heal your tissues. When injected within soft tissues, plasma will result in the formation of fibrin stand/mesh or extracellular matrix under the skin.
Migration of macrophages and stem cells to affected or treated areas help achieve tissue regeneration and the recruitment of additional stem cells to the area. The result is new and healthy tissues.
PRP promotes local tissue growth and repair of damaged tissue. Depending on the objectives of the treatment and where it is injected, PRP can help regrow skin, generate new collagen, regrow hair, etc.
It is an easy procedure, very convenient with little down time and rapid results with long-term benefits.
Once the PRP concentrate has been prepared from your blood, it is then reapplied topically for example after micro-needling or it can be injected subdermally in your skin in specific areas that have been targeted for your treatments.
Your recovery experience will depend on the location, number of injections and type of treatment that you’ve had. You may experience some bruising, soreness, and swelling at the injection site. This can last anywhere from 1 to 7 days. However, you should be able to resume your usual activities immediately. We recommend for the patients to avoid alcohol and cigarettes for 5 days before and after PRP injections. We also recommend that no anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen should be taken for 3 weeks post treatment.
PRP is used nowadays in different fields of medicine to regenerate tissue.
It is used extensively in orthopedics to regenerate cartilage for patients that suffer from arthritis for example.
Sexual dysfunction both for male and female can be treated with PRP to improve an erection or the sexual experience and orgasm.
Additionally, it is used extensively in aesthetics in order to treat patients with loose skin or poor texture of the skin mostly in the face and neck but it can be used anywhere in the body.
It is also used for patients that have alopecia with loss of hair or thinning of hair in order to restore a healthy full head of hair.
PRP can be injected in the skin just about anywhere in the body.
It is extensively used in the scalp to regrow hair and in the face and neck to treat loose skin and poor textured skin. It is also injected inside certain joints to promote the regeneration of cartilage and the healing of connective tissue that has been damaged. It is injected in the penis to treat erectile dysfunction and it is also injected in the clitoris and G spot in the vagina to improve sexual experience and orgasms. The platelets and plasma come from your own body, so there is no risk of negative reaction or rejection. PRP injections have limited side effects other than at the injection site. As with any injection, you may have some soreness and inflammation at the site for a few hours after your treatment. You may get a bruise but it is rare. Overall, PRP injections are very safe with great benefits. Very few people have any complications in using PRP.
PRP treatments are never permanent. As you age, your tissues lose certain properties and you will need to periodically re-inject some PRP in the areas treated to maintain the integrity of the tissues.
PRP is usually combined with other treatment modalities in anesthetics such as Micro-needling or certain laser treatments, and it can even be mixed with neuromodulators (Botox, Nuceiva) or fillers.
