spider veins
Spider veins are very small veinules (02-07mm) that are red and/or blue in colour. They are easily visible and therefore may be an aesthetic concern. They generally cause no pain. Spider veins can be associated to a local high venous pressure relative to the venous reflux (backward flow) of the veins in the lower extremities of the body while standing or sitting. In order to successfully treat a venous duplex, scanning is recommended to assess the status of the valves inside your veins. The main treatment for spider veins is sclerotherapy (the injection of sclerosing agent inside the spiders causing the ultimate disappearance). In case some spider veins remain after sclerotherapy, and the residual spider veins could be treated with an Nd-YAG skin laser.
